ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In the canvases of Wassef Boutros-Ghali there are no accidents — everything is absolutely the way he wants it to be — what Wassef wants to create is an equilibrium contained within the frame of the plane of the canvas. His images do not extend beyond the edge of the canvas, there is nothing outside the canvas. It is either in the canvas or it is not — in this there can be no doubt that his practice as an architect influences his work. Yet, it is just the opposite of his works on paper — there he draws directly — there is no preparation — the draftsman and the sheet of paper — the resulting drawings are fluid, where the paintings are static.
